Reviews

Book reviews can be subject to criticism with questions about authenticity. Some suppliers now only want to publish reviews from those who have bought from them. This can restrict readers access to expressing their views. As a result, can I suggest the easiest way to be heard is to use the contact form on my website to post your reviews direct? I welcome your comments and always try to learn from what readers say.

Just in case you were wondering, having viewed my books on Amazon, whether Kevin ever did go to work? He may well have done, but it’s not one of my books. I don’t know where Amazon got that from!

Listening to critical comment and the varied opinions of readers is an interesting and mostly rewarding aspect of writing. It is a mechanism to assist in learning and developing a writing style and some indications of how your work is received by others. This of course is the real test and inevitably opinions will vary widely. Personally I do take pleasure in hearing reader’s comments and find generally that people identify very different aspects that they like or don’t like or that have a particular resonance for them.

There is however a concern about how genuine, accurate and indeed useful reviews can be as a guide to quality assurance. Clearly they can be manipulated and people’s motivation to submit reviews will vary. Some sites have therefore tightened up their criteria to publish reviews and may not be willing to publish the submissions of those who do not appear to be legitimate or from their own customers.

The reviews shown on this website are a genuine attempt to reflect recent feedback from readers for which I am grateful.

Review for Library talks

“I can say with complete certainty that you were very well received; we had borrowers coming in the next day to say how lovely and interesting your talk was… what a brilliant speaker you are.”

Reviews for RECOVERY & IDENTITY

“A good book, to say I enjoyed this would be the wrong word, it covers a very difficult subject in a sensitive way. Unlike many books these days it follows a logical and chronological order and comes to a satisfactory ending.”
Liz Finlay

“The story line in recovery is one that keeps the reader engaged and eager to learn the outcome at each stage of the family’s journey. It is realistic and at times shocking however without this it would not be a true reflection of the experience of a family who find themselves the victims of serious crime and the long term implications of this.”

“Recovery is a sensitive and humane portrayal of the impact of serious crime and its aftermath on a victim – Alice; in telling how Alice and her family relive the crime through the course of the justice process, Chris has written an important under told story from the victim’s perspective. Even in the terrible things people do to each other the book finds hope in human resilience and the ability to recover. ”

“Well-written and flowing narrative, It was particularly interesting to me as I live in the area and know the villages mentioned in the canal journeys. The book illustrates the close working relationship between the probation service, police, social services and prison service.”
